Everything In Moderation?
The phrase "Everything in moderation" is often heard or spoken, but what does it truly mean? For many, it seems to imply indulging in food, drink, or activities whenever they desire, without depriving oneself of anything. However, the problem with this phrase is that it lacks clear guidelines or structure.
The key questions to consider are:
- How much is too much?
- What are you hoping to achieve by living life with the philosophy of moderation?
To begin, ask yourself: What does "in moderation" actually mean to you?
If you use the phrase "everything in moderation" as an excuse to make poor choices daily, or more than a couple of times a week, it’s important to understand that the results you desire will likely be minimal. The key to meaningful change is setting a clear, personal definition of what "in moderation" means to you.
For this approach to work, it must be:
- Realistic – Your definition of moderation should be attainable.
- Structured – It needs a framework to guide your actions.
Most importantly, your behaviors must align with your goals. Only by making positive behavior changes can you expect to see positive results.
While I support having an occasional or weekly treat meal, "in moderation" should not be an excuse to eat unhealthy food every day.
If you truly want to make serious changes to your body, you need to eat well and maintain structure 80-90% of the time, not just 50%.
