There Is No Magical Time to Stop Eating
The notion that you must stop eating after a certain hour, like 6 PM, to lose weight is a myth. This idea, which may have originated from shows like Oprah Winfrey's, lacks scientific backing.
Let’s break it down:
- Your body requires calories throughout the day to function. For instance, if you need 1200 calories daily just to maintain basic functions like breathing and organ operation, and 1600 calories to support metabolism and fat burning, skipping late meals can be counterproductive. If you’ve only consumed 1300 calories by 8 PM, you’d still need another 300 calories to maintain your metabolism, blood sugar levels, and thyroid function.
- Eating late won’t cause weight gain unless you exceed your daily calorie needs. Instead, focus on the quality of your late-night snacks. Avoid unhealthy, high-sugar foods that can spike blood sugar levels.
For your last meal, prioritize high-protein and high-fiber options. These choices will keep you satisfied and support your body’s needs without negatively impacting your health.
By making thoughtful decisions, you can eat later in the evening while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
